Apex Real Estate Community Information
"The Peak of Good Living”
Apex, North Carolina was first settled around 1867 and was incorporated in 1873. The name "Apex" was adopted because the community was the highest point on the Chatham Railroad between Richmond, Virginia and Jacksonville, Florida.
Located in southwestern Wake County, Apex combines a relaxing small-town atmosphere with convenience to big-city amenities. The town planners are working to ensure that the small-town character remains while allowing for many new residents to join our community.
Apex is a small town ideally located in the southwestern corner of Wake County just a short drive from major shopping, business, entertainment, recreation and other big-city amenities.
Apex Union Depot
The most significant landmark in Apex is the 1914 Apex Union Depot, located in the heart of town. The depot built in 1906 burned in 1914, but the loss was soon replaced with the current structure. The building now houses a Visitors’ Center, the Chamber offices, and several meeting rooms which
may be rented for social events, meetings, and private parties.
New Hope Valley Railway
Apex began as a railroad town and only 10 minutes south of downtown; you can once again ride the rails. Volunteer members of the local chapter of the of the National Railway Historical Society have restored engines and cars and operate trains every hour on the hour from noon to 4:00 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month from May through November.
